Silver Surfers

The Silver Surfers at Smithybridge Library are holding an Open Morning on Saturday 31 May 2008 from 10-12noon. David, the Silver Surfers' group tutor, will be there to promote the regular weekly sessions and to offer 'Taster sessions' on the day to members of the public. The library will also be hosting a stall with proceeds going to the Friends of Smithybridge Library.

FREE refreshments will be available on the day. Everybody welcome!

Silver surfers

We currently have regular "Silver Surfers" sessions on Tuesday mornings at Milnrow and Smithybridge libraries. The sessions are lead by volunteer tutors who have generously offered their time to help people find out more about computers and the Internet in a friendly and informal setting.

Silver Surfer sessions are aimed at the over 50s (birth certificates are not required!) and don't assume that you have any experience of a keyboard or a computer. The main aim of the sessions is to build up people's confidence so that they aren't scared of the technology and feel comfortable having a go for themselves.

The sessions are very popular so it's generally a good idea to ring the library beforehand to see if there are any spare places.

Biggest Coffee Morning

Jennifer Harris tells us that Smithybridge Library's contribution to the World's Biggest Coffee Morning last weekend netted £176.50 for the MacMillan Nurses.

Smithybridge Library is participating in MacMillan Cancer Support's 'Help Create A Huge Stir' coffee morning event to support the work of the charity.

The Library's coffee morning is on Saturday 29th September from 10.00am to 12 noon.
