Happy birthday Norden Library!

There was bunting and frolic at Norden Library to celebrate its first birthday in its new home. Lynn hosted a birthday party for children visiting the library. For grown-ups there was a reminiscence event.

Carnival caterpillar

Norden Carnival: Eric the Hungry Caterpillar

Eric the Very Hungry Caterpillar made a welcome appearance at this year's Norden Carnival.

Eric was made by Lynn Byrne, the Branch Assistant at Norden Library and his legs were provided by children from the primary school.

A good time was had by all and even the weather behaved itself!

Norden Library

Norden Library will be closed on 11th and 12th February 2008 because of work being done to resurface the school car park, including the approach to the library. We apologise to customers for the short notice of this closure.

World Music in our libraries

world musicWe've just expanded our World Music Collection with a new range of CDs covering a wide range of music from Irish folk to Congolese Soukous; Brazilian hip-hop to Bollywood; yodelling to salsa.

The extended collection also includes The Rough Guide To The Music Of... series and Rough Guides to different styles of World Music. If you want to get a flavour of some of this music we have a selection loaded onto a listening post in the Wheatsheaf Library.

World Music Collection CDs are available in Castleton, Middleton, Norden and the Wheatsheaf libraries. When Heywood Library reopens next year it, too, will have CDs from this collection.

They are available for loan to anybody over the age of 14, costing 50p for a three-week loan (25p for Passport To Leisure card holders).

Norden moves home

Norden Library moved from its old home (upstairs in the old Town Hall on Edenfield Road) to new premises which are part of Norden Community School on Shawfield Lane. Many thanks to everybody involved in packing up the old library and getting the new library ready for business on Monday July 16th.

It's early days yet but we've had a very encouraging number of new members and issue figures are looking good. If you've not seen the new library, why not pop in and have a look around?
